IFK Mariehamn claimed the biggest surprise win of the round when it knocked out league leader KuPS. AC Oulu crushed SJK, who lost only for the first time this season. Haka and HJK played a draw.
Football’s Veikkausliiga continued after the national match and midsummer break with a full round of six matches. There was certainly no shortage of surprises in the round, as each of the top three in the series went without a win.
League leader KuPS unexpectedly lost to IFK Mariehamn 0–1 at home. The Åland team scored the winning goal from a penalty kick Ariel Nguekam or Tuco, when extra time of the opening period was played. The hit was the second of the season for the 34-year-old Cameroonian striker.
After KuPS changed the head coach at the beginning of the season, the team from Kuopio had lost to SJK and won nine league games. IFK Mariehamn, on the other hand, picked up only its second win of the season and continues in the series from last to last.
