Investigators for the National Accident Commission have arrived in Gröna Lund.
Now a thorough investigation is to be carried out – in the hope of finding answers to how the fatal accident occurred.
– It is an investigation that will take several months, it is a comprehensive incident that we must investigate and get to the bottom of, says Johan Ahlberg, Director General, National Accident Commission.
A number of investigators from the National Accident Commission stepped through Gröna Lund’s gates on Monday. A technical examination of both the site and the attraction is now pending, in order to understand how the fatal accident occurred.
– We found out about the accident already at lunchtime yesterday via SOS Alarm and during yesterday it was all about getting in touch with the police and emergency services. During the morning we made the decision to investigate this incident, says Johan Ahlberg.
Months of investigative work
According to the director general, months of investigative work await. A job that starts with getting an overview of the accident scene.
– We start by investigating the accident site and creating an initial overview. Then it’s about gathering information, talking to staff and witnesses, collecting surveillance footage and other documentation, he says.
Witnesses who provide information to the police will most likely also be heard by the State Accident Commission.
– During the day, we will focus on staff at Gröna Lund, but it is possible that we will approach people who have provided information to the police. We will have to talk to people who made direct observations of the accident, he says.
“Get to the bottom of”
Before a completed investigation is presented, extensive work awaits, where a technical analysis of both the Jetline and the site must be carried out. A job that is expected to take several months.
– It is an investigation that will take several months, it is a comprehensive incident that we must investigate and get to the bottom of. It is extensive material to take part in and we will probably have to carry out technical investigations of the attraction.
During Monday, both Furuviksparken and Kolmården announced that they are closing some of their attractions, which have the same manufacturer as Jetline at Gröna Lund.
– The candy train has the same manufacturer as Jetline and we therefore decided to put it on hold from today, says Christine Karmfalk, CEO of Kolmården Zoo to P4 Östergötland.
At Furuviken, it is about the attraction called “The Dragon”.
