  • Italy: Superyachts are no longer allowed to dock outside Naples

A new regulation prevents superyacht owners from docking at the Port of Naples, reports the Guardian.

The port manager at the coastal district of Mergellina has now banned yachts longer than 75 meters from docking in the port.

“Our boat is 85 meters and I have seen several larger ones outside the harbour. Why is it no longer possible? Big yachts bring jobs and money,” writes a Turkish billionaire in a letter to the port.

Several multi-billionaires have now expressed “thorough disappointment” over the news, which among others affected the world’s second richest man, Bernard Arnault, CEO of LMVH.

According to the newspaper, the restriction came as a surprise to LMVH CEO Bernard Arnault, who had previously been able to add with his yacht, which has both an open-air cinema and a swimming pool with a glass floor.

“I have received many letters from magnates who say they are deeply disappointed that they cannot dock in Naples anymore,” a source at the port told Corriere della Sera.
