Valentin Madouas was crowned French champion by winning alone in the road race of the French Road Cycling Championships this Sunday, June 25 in Cassel, in the North. The 26-year-old Breton took the lead alone about twenty kilometers from the finish after a coup by his Groupama-FDJ team on the grueling Flanders course. He finished ahead of his teammate Rudy Molard and Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo). Julian Alaphilippe, tipped to be the big favourite, dropped out 96 kilometers from the finish before giving up, obviously the victim of a heat stroke. Thibaut Pinot, for his final French Championship, finished in seventh place.
