In Scotland, the nationalist party SNP is holding its convention on independence this Saturday, June 24. Between the legal cases of financial embezzlement and the resignation of its leader, Nicola Sturgeon, in February 2023, the party must reaffirm its strategy to leave the United Kingdom. The new leader of the SNP, Humza Yousaf opened the debates.

In power in Edinburgh since 2007, the SNP did not achieve Scottish independence. And must now face suspicions of corruption and a lack of leadership.
The summer of rallying
So this summer will be the summer of rallying, announces the new Prime Minister, Humza Yousaf: “ SNP activists will begin a summer campaign on the opportunities of independence. There will be a series of regional assemblies. AT the end of the summer we will meet again, but not in a convention center: September 2(We) fill the streets of Edinburgh with a march and rally for an independent Scotland within the EU. Let’s make this meeting the biggest our cause has ever seen! »
Countdown started
Because the countdown has begun: the next British legislative elections will be held next year. And Humza Yusaf already considers them a referendum de facto : “ This election gives us the opportunity to get out of the deadlock. On the first page, the first line of our program, I propose : “vote SNP for Scotland to become independent”. And if the SNP wins these elections, then the people will have spoken. »
In the event of a majority in 2024, the SNP will demand negotiations with London; Edinburgh has always affirmed its desire to secede by legal means.
