The hairdresser’s pole – a red, white and blue luminous tube – that adorns the facade of De Bruijn Haarmode, is still reminiscent of the bloodletting. “Red stands for blood, white for bandages and blue for bloodletting. When the bandage was washed, it was hung on the stick outside. The rotation of the wind caused that rotation, that’s how the barber pole actually came into being. But this is still longer than 175 years ago!”
