Mysterious films often struggle to bring their plot to a satisfying conclusion: Source Code does a great job of it. This is one of the reasons why it made it to 15th place in our list of the 50 best science fiction films since 2000.

When and where is Source Code shown on TV?

  • You can see Source Code today, Friday at 8:15 p.m. on RTL II.
  • It will be repeated the same evening at 11:50 p.m.
  • No spoilers: That’s what Source Code is all about

Soldier Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up on a moving train and must find an assassin planning to detonate a bomb. He has 8 minutes, then the bomb explodes and he dies. Everything starts all over again and Colter relives the same 8 minutes: his next chance to find the bomb.

Great Puzzle Cinema: What’s So Good About Source Code?

We experience the 8 minutes just as often as the main character, so we can always puzzle along. And with each repeated segment, we get a better understanding of what exactly is going on, and it’s a great experience that very few films can deliver as entertainingly as Source Code.

We won’t spoil the fantastic ending here and probably not everyone likes it either: But Source Code gradually turns out to be a time travel and later even a multiverse film. Hardly any other film in this genre has so much depth. In case you didn’t understand the film: Director Duncan Jones explains the source code ending here.
