Energy giants are being sued for $51 billion
The US state of Oregon’s most populous region, Multnomah County, is suing 17 energy companies for $51 billion, equivalent to roughly SEK 545 billion.
The companies are considered responsible for the heat wave that hit western North America in 2021 and claimed 69 lives in Multnomah, which is still seen as the most serious weather-related disaster in American history.
The lawsuit filed in court in Portland is directed against, among others, Exxon, Shell, Chevron and BP, writes the British newspaper The Guardian.
