Stockholm wants to build a brand new arena and the citizens of Gothenburg think it’s their turn.
Malmö holds the wallet and Örnsköldsvik calls its application “homecoming”.
Here are the four cities vying to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Stockholm
In the City of Stockholm’s application to host the ESC, it appears that they want to build a new temporary arena in Frihamnen for the purpose. According to documents which Today’s news have taken part in, the new arena will accommodate 11,180 to 14,700 people. What the new arena would cost, however, is not known.
Just like when the city organized ESC 2016, they also want to place the Eurovision village at Kungsträdgården and organize a Euroclub to “benefit the city’s nightlife actors”.
Örnsköldsvik
If SVT’s choice falls on Örnsköldsvik, it will then be the city’s first ESC experience. The city has the modern Hägglund arena as its trump card, and also wants to let the long-distance guests stay on cruise ships in the port.
The city also highlights the music and producer training Musikmakarna.
– In this year’s Melodifestival, 11 out of 28 entries had a connection to it. That’s why we call our application the “homecoming”, business director Peter Selemark has previously said The Express.
Malmö
Malmö has been able to host the ESC twice: 1992 at the Ice Stadium and 2013 at the Malmö Arena. The chairman of the municipal board in Malmö City, Katrin Stjenfeldt Jammeh (S), has previously told SVT that an advantage of the city as host is that it has been shown during previous hosting that it is possible to both create a good party and keep costs down.
– We can probably make an arrangement at lower costs than you can in many other places, she said.
Gothenburg
Gothenburg arranged ESC 1985 in Scandinavium. Ahead of next year’s competition, there are questions about whether the arena will be able to support the ESC’s enormous light rig, but according to the arena company Got Event, it is possible, after some adjustments.
In addition, many believe that the city is on its way:
– I think we did the best Eurovision in 1985 when Lill Lindfors lost her skirt. There are those who say they should be our turn, but it must be due to competitiveness, says Gothenburg & Co’s vice president Magnus Hallberg to Expressen.
