Blue Protocol celebrates its release in Japan on Wednesday, June 14th. However, you can register from outside and witness the launch. With a trick, even the game content is automatically translated into English in order to understand at least the basic content.
How does participation work? You can already pre-register for the Blue Protocol release and download the client. You don’t need a VPN for this.
What’s next? Once you have created an account, you can theoretically start playing. The Terms of Service officially state that only players from Japan are allowed. Bandai Namco also cracked down on western testers in the beta and banned them.
But we ourselves have already spent a few hours without a VPN in Blue Protocol and the account is still intact. So you don’t need a VPN, but you’ll be more secure with your account if you use one. In general, however, it can happen at any time that your account will be blocked. Rather see the Japanese version as a kind of beta test.
The article was last updated on June 19th after we tested it ourselves over the weekend.
Translate any game to English with a simple trick
How do I get Blue Protocol switched to English? There is no official patch with English translations. However, you can work around the problem with a little trick.
To do this, you first install the Japanese language pack from Windows. Simply search for your language settings and add the language Japanese below.
You then have to download the MORT program (via Github). This is free and ensures that the texts in a selected area of the screen are automatically translated with the help of Google. This doesn’t bring perfect translations, but should be enough to understand the basic game content.
In MORT you must first select the screen area to be translated. Then select the translation from Japanese to English in the “Translation” tab. You can also create different settings and shortcuts for the translations.
How does the translation work? With CTRL+Shift+A you can adjust the area to be translated at any time. You automatically have a blue window open in which the respective text is then translated. You can move this window and enlarge or reduce it as you like. So you can put it directly over the game, but also on a second monitor.
Why should I play in Japan? Blue Protocol will not appear with us until 2024. There is currently no concrete date, but what is certain is that you will have to wait at least 6 months for the release. If you don’t want to wait, you can start playing straight away. However, you probably won’t be able to carry your progress over to the EU version.
So the release in Japan can be a kind of “extended beta” and give you an insight into the game. If you like it, you can continue playing in Japan or look forward to the release in the west. If you don’t like the gameplay, then you don’t need to “hype” yourself any further.
