No less than 44 departments were placed on orange alert on Sunday June 18 by Météo-France. This Monday, the situation is slightly better even if many departments could be crossed by storms.
[Mis à jour le 19 juin 2023 à 11h38] A large majority of metropolitan France is placed on yellow alert for a risk of thunderstorms. Météo-France even switched 15 departments to orange vigilance from 10:30 a.m. in the face of stormy activity. This area is concentrated from Poitou-Charentes to Champagne. According to the meteorological service, “heavy rains are expected during the afternoon, then in the evening, from the Center Val-de-Loire region and Burgundy towards the German borders”.
Orange vigilance for thunderstorms predicts rains of 30 to 50 millimeters in less than an hour. Traffic in the Paris region could be slowed down by this weather: the N118, between Sèvres and Ulis, was thus partially flooded on Sunday June 18 with several vehicle engines flooded. Hailstorms are also expected. This stormy phenomenon should evacuate towards the northeast of the country during the night.
Winds of 120 km/h in Paris
Faced with the “sudden and rapid nature of these” storms, Météo-France advises to follow the “possible updates of vigilance during the day.” Sunday evening, their servers were overloaded in the middle of a violent episode of thunderstorms. It must be said that the torrential rains and strong gusts of wind that crossed the north of the country brought a massive amount of connections to the meteorological site. The wind thus exceeded 120 km / h at the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Charente, Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Cher, Nièvre, Côte-d’Or, Yonne , Haute-Marne, Aube and Marne are therefore placed on orange vigilance until midnight. On the Météo-France map, for Monday, 54 departments are on yellow alert. The yellow largely predominates. A color that tells people to be on their guard.
On the thermometer side, temperatures range from 31°C near Ajaccio to 19°C in Cherbourg. It will be between 23 and 17°C in the Southwest and 27 to 30°C around the Mediterranean. The northern half of the country will oscillate between 19 and 28 degrees but the variations will be significant during the passage of storms.
