  • L-proposal: Change the name of the Marabou park

    Johan Storåkers (L), opposition councilor in Sundbyberg, proposes that the municipality’s art gallery Marabouparken should change its name.

    Storåkers writes in a blog post that politicians have a moral responsibility and that it is necessary to show solidarity with Ukraine, according to P4 Stockholm.

    On Friday, it was announced that several amusement parks are pausing all purchases from Marabou, as Marabou’s owner Mondelez is still operating in Russia.

    Two men in their 30s had a fight with a knife or an ax in Gothenburg. One of the men was injured and taken to hospital.

    The UN condemns Russia for denied humanitarian aid

    The United Nations on Sunday condemned Russia for denying humanitarian aid access to Russian-occupied areas affected by the Nova Kakhovka dam that collapsed earlier in June, International reports.

    The UN called on the Russian authorities “to act in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian law”. The UN will continue to seek the necessary access to the Russian-occupied affected areas to ensure access to humanitarian aid.

    The death toll in the large dam collapse has risen to at least 45 people.

  • Continued problems in train traffic – track work delayed

    The major maintenance work on the Södra main line has been delayed, reports say P4 Kronoberg.

    Putin’s losses at the highest level since the Battle of Bakhmut

    Russia has suffered its biggest losses since the peak of the Battle of Bakhmut in March, writes the Independent.

    The British military said both sides are suffering heavy military casualties as Ukraine struggles to dislodge Kremlin forces from occupied territories in the early stages of its counteroffensive.

    Birth control pills increase the risk of depression

    A study from the UK shows that birth control pills increase the risk of depression. The study is based on a quarter of a million women and girls’ data taken from the UK Biobank, TT reports.

    The study concerns the type of birth control pills called combined birth control pills, which contain both estrogen and progestin.

    According to the study, the pill increased women’s risk of depression by 73 percent in the first two years of use.

    Women who started using birth control pills during adolescence had a 130 percent higher frequency of depressive symptoms. Women aged 20 and over when they started had a 92 percent higher risk of depressive symptoms.

  • 300 Pakistanis dead from migrant boat

    Over 300 Pakistani citizens are said to have died in connection with the sinking of the migrant boat off the course of Greece, according to Pakistani authorities CNN.

    “This devastating incident shows the urgent need to address and condemn the heinous illegal human trafficking,” wrote Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, Speaker of Pakistan’s Senate in a condolence letter.

    Around 750 people may have been on board and just over 100 of them are said to have been rescued.

    Greece has not confirmed the Pakistani data.

    A big fight involving around 20-30 people took place in Sundsvall on Sunday evening. According to the police, objects were thrown and sticks were used during the fight.

    – It was chaotic in the beginning. It started with a few children, then it escalated and adults got involved, says Stefan Andersson, officer on duty at the police

    The fight took place at around 10.30 pm in a block of apartment buildings.

    The police have questioned those involved and started a preliminary investigation.

  • Veterinarian took dog medicine – sentenced to prison

    A vet herself used the narcotic medication she prescribed for her dog.

    For this, she is now sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for a serious drug offence, reports The barometer.

    Coop has communicated in its social media that “The goods that Mondelez sells to us are not produced and do not contain raw materials from Russia. Marabou is manufactured in Sweden. We are in dialogue with Mondelez about the situation and are closely monitoring developments.”

    Several local Ica dealers have stopped selling Mondelez. But I have not seen any statements from Ica or Axfood from central sources.

    Hard to know. What I do know is that the trial was supposed to be held now in June, but that it was postponed at the request of the prosecutor. The prosecutor believes that the trial can be held at the end of July at the earliest. You can read more here.
