The controversial independent school Manar Al-Houda in Uppsala is examined from three sides

Manar Al-Houda Free School, which runs both pre-school activities and primary school up to year 6, is the subject of two audits and a police investigation.

The municipality of Uppsala has, among other things, demanded that the activity rest on a scientific basis. There is a dialogue between the school and the municipality.

The School Inspectorate started a so-called ownership and management investigation in March last year. The investigation has grown and also includes interventions for students with special support. The investigation is ongoing.

The school reported a suspected crime to the police

A couple of months ago, the school filed a police report. According to the school, this is about former employees of the school being suspected of abusing their positions of trust to embezzle money. The criminal classification is faithlessness against the principal.

– Of course, it is serious when a school receives criticism, regardless of what it is about, but over the years we have worked hard with all criticism. We are constantly getting more students, so our credibility has not been significantly affected, says Martin Runtorp, principal at Manar Al-Houda.
