Two London-area men were fined $2,500 each and had their hunting licenses suspended after they pleaded guilty to hunting deer at night.
A St. Thomas hunter and another from Aylmer pleaded guilty in court in St. Thomas to hunting deer at night and possessing a firearm at night, Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources said.
A spotlight was unlawfully used in the hunting, the ministry said.
The court heard that a conservation officer was conducting hunting inspections during a controlled deer hunt last Nov. 8 in Elgin County and heard a gunshot after legal hunting hours had ended.
The officer found the two hunters still in the bush, using a spotlight while trying to shoot at a deer.
Both men must take a hunting education course before they can apply for new hunting licences.
