Fae Farm is the dream come true for MeinMMO author Jasmin Beverungen on Steam. After strenuous climbing tours in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and hours of monster battles in Diablo 4, she is looking forward to a relaxed farm life as a fairy.

Do you know that feeling of just wanting to switch off after a long day at work? When I’ve been working hard all day, I don’t want any more input in the evening. If I’ve been upset throughout the day, action-packed battles can help vent my frustration. But often I’m just in the mood for a quiet, harmonious game.

At the moment I can’t find any alternative to switching off:

  • Diablo 4? Oh well. Killing monsters can be meditative, but I still have the stress of watching my life points and collecting good loot from constantly playing.
  • Tears of the Kingdom? There is a lot of nature there, but the constant urge to explore and the compulsion to collect also stress me out.
  • Forspoken I need to work off my Pile of Shame? Despite the open world, the relaxation I’m looking for doesn’t beckon here either.

    • The last title that made me feel like I was on vacation is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Well, that may be partly due to the fact that the game was released in the middle of the Covid19 pandemic and the initial loss of work gave me a lot of time to design my own little holiday island.

    But I was able to experience Animal Crossing at my own pace: fishing for fish, collecting beetles, visiting other islands and meeting friends were a guarantee of relaxation for me. No other game has given me this effect since, but my personal savior could come as soon as September 8, 2023.

    Fae Farm is supposed to be my new Animal Crossing

    I’m now hoping for the holiday effect of Animal Crossing from Fae Farm. At first glance, the title has everything I want from a casual game that still doesn’t bore me:

  • Cuddly animals invite me to cuddle
  • I can grow plants and spend time in nature
  • I can have fun with my own home and decorate it the way I want
  • If I’m feeling lonely, I can invite up to three of my friends to the game

    • The important thing for me is that the many tasks don’t degenerate into everyday stress and become a kind of to-do list. With Animal Crossing, I was able to choose when to do which task. As a result, there were never any time bottlenecks or pressure situations, apart from the opening times of the buildings.

    Even the first trailer of Fae Farm completely enchanted me. I mean look at these cute fairy wings:

    Yes, I like cute glittery creatures, colorful rainbows, flying unicorns and magical fairies. That’s exactly why the first trailers for Fae Farm drew me in so much. The cuddly look, the animations of the figures and the bright color palette are exactly my toddler’s dream come true.

    The best part is that even fights await in Fae Farm. So if I don’t feel like watering potatoes as a fairy anymore, I can use my magic abilities to hold my own against monsters.

    In combination with the many other activities that the game promises, the whole thing sounds like a fun game after work. Alternatively, I still had these 5 MMOs as an option:

    In Fae Farm we may not be dealing with a complex combat system that we are used to from MMORPGs. But if I’ve been using my brain all day, I don’t really want to memorize boss moves every night.

    All in all, Fae Farm sounds like the perfect mix of relaxing features to me and could be the perfect fall game for me.

    But I guess I’ll have to survive the summer without relaxing games and willy-nilly look for other leisure activities to wind down after work.
