It has been sunny and dry in Sweden for a long time. SMHI warns of extreme fire risk in large parts of the country – but there is rain on the horizon.
– We have already had some rain today and it is very good because it has been so dry, says Lovisa Svanberg, meteorologist, TV4 Nyheterna.
During Saturday, some parts of southern Sweden were spared the drought due to rainfall. In addition, the forecast shows that there may be more rain in the future.
– We can see that more rain is on the way. If we look ahead a week, we can see that the forecast shows that it can fall between 30 and 50 millimeters, says Lovisa Svanberg.
But since there was a severe drought for a long time, more rainfall may be needed before nature can recover properly.
– It had been so incredibly dry for a long time, then the greenery may have difficulty picking up the rain that comes. So the most important thing is that it comes in big showers so that we get continuous rain.
Here comes the rain
The rain will primarily linger over the southern parts of the country, but much-needed sprinkles may drop in more places in the country.
– Tomorrow it looks like it will mostly be the southern parts that will get a lot of rain, but there may be some local showers in the north as well.
During Tuesday next week, the new front will start to come in over the country, where there may be precipitation in more places.
– In the middle of the week, there may be more rain in the western parts of southern Sweden, and then it could be about larger amounts of rain.
In the coming week, those who worried about the lawn during the watering ban can hopefully breathe a sigh of relief. Albeit temporarily.
– It looks like both the American and European models for forecasting agree and that there will be rain. But exactly how much and where – is a bit difficult to determine at the moment, says Lovisa Svanberg.
