“I’m mad at Bethesda”

For many, the presentation of Bethesda’s new sci-fi RPG Starfield was the highlight of the Xbox showcase on June 11, 2023. But not everyone is excited about the game.

Who is the person you are talking about? Shirley Curry rose to fame in 2015 as “Skyrim Grandma” with her Let’s Plays on YouTube. She was 79 then, so she must be in her late 80s by now. She desperately wants to see The Elder Scrolls 6 release – and is frustrated with Bethesda.

What bothers the Skyrim grandma? In a June 16 vlog, Curry shared her frustration with her 1.22 million “grandchildren” on YouTube. After many years, she’s slowly had enough of Skyrim, but there’s no trace of the successor:

One of my problems, kids, is that I got so angry with Bethesda for not making and releasing Elder Scrolls 6 for us to play. […] I’ve played so many different stories I’ve dreamed up in Skyrim over the years that I finally got a little bored.

Ultimately, Curry put down her beloved Skyrim, but now she’s in an awkward position: “I got bored with the game, now I’m bored without it.”

Curry apparently lacks gaming alternatives. Most of the other games are boring and she doesn’t like them. So she tried Bethesda’s Fallout series, but found it “too depressing”.

Skyrim granny doesn’t play space games

Why isn’t Starfield an option? When asked by a viewer if she’s excited for Starfield, the Skyrim grandma wrote, “No I’m NOT. I’m too mad they put off ES6 for too long!”

Curry told PC-Gamer that while Starfield’s presentation was nice, it’s a space game. She’s just a Skyrim junkie.

In the meantime, she only has to console herself with Civilization 5 – but not Civ 6, because she doesn’t like the map there. It remains to be seen whether Curry will give Starfield another chance for the release.

At the same time, Curry also cleared up rumors that she would appear in Starfield, as reported by GameStar colleagues. At the showcase, fans had discovered a spaceship called “Grandma” that invited players to eat.

The Skyrim grandma says, however, that she saw the scene, but that was at most a small hint from Bethesda. She is not in the game and does not know anything about such plans by Bethesda.
