Wants Sweden to use the terrorism law

Defense Minister På Jonson (M) says that his Turkish counterpart says that they are still waiting for Sweden to implement the new anti-terror legislation before Sweden can become a member of NATO.

There were no new statements from Turkey during the last day of the NATO defense ministers’ meeting. With just over a month left until the NATO summit in Vilnius, Turkey points out again that Sweden must use the new terrorism legislation.

– Turkey’s defense minister said that it is good if Sweden becomes a member, but that they still want to wait for the implementation of our new anti-terrorist legislation that came on June 1, says defense minister Pål Jonson (M) after the meeting in Brussels.

The same thing was said by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Turkish media this week.

The parliaments are extra open

Hungary has announced that it will vote on Swedish NATO membership on July 7.

Turkey has announced that it will keep parliament open after July 1 instead of taking a summer break – something that keeps the possibility open for the country to vote through Sweden’s NATO membership.

– Of course we want to become full members by the NATO summit in Vilnius at the very latest, says Pål Jonson.
