What does a mother deer who wants to protect her young actually sound like? A bit like something out of a horror movie, Francisco Corrales experienced an early morning walk with the dog.
– This sound when it sounds like the deer is nibbling, tells off, I’ve never heard that before.
Francisco Corrales was on a walk just around the knot in Stockholm, near a small forest grove, when he suddenly saw that he and the dog ended up close to a mother deer and her three kids.
– The mother stops and does not let go of us, says Corrales.
“I pull the leash”
He stops and starts filming, then backs up against the house wall.
– For every step we took back, the mother took a step forward.
Then the mother deer goes on the attack.
– My dog Zizu did not defend me at all, he just wanted to play with the deer. But he understood that there was something strange when I start pulling on the leash and say we have to leave, says Corrales and continues:
– Then it came towards us for the third time and started running towards us with this sound, as if it is nibbling, speaking.
Scary and wonderful
Francisco Corrales was then able to back further with the dog and the deer released them. The heart pounded a little afterwards, he says.
– We left and I didn’t even want to look back because the mother was looking for eye contact and wouldn’t let go of us.
Both dog and human managed without a scratch mother.
– It was scary, it was awesome, it was lovely, it was nice, he says.
