The EU’s Fit for 55 climate package is on target

The negotiations are complete and the Fit for 55 climate package is on track.
The package is described as the EU’s most comprehensive investment ever to speed up climate change.

– It is a great success, writes Ebba Busch (KD) on Twitter.

The European Commission presented the Fit for 55 climate package in July 2021.

The new climate package must contribute to reducing the EU’s emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. The package contains concrete legislative proposals that together form a plan for how the EU will achieve its climate goals.

The package includes, among other things, reduction obligations for flights and boats. It is also about electrification, emissions trading, a ban on selling fossil-fueled cars from 2035 and rules for forestry.

“Each country aims to achieve”

“Sweden has targeted the EU’s Fit for 55 climate package. It is a great success. Fit for 55 was presented by the European Commission 2 years ago. When we took over the presidency, 6 out of 11 proposals were ready. Now everything is ready.”, signs Energy and Industry Minister Ebba Busch (KD). Twitter.

“Fit for 55 is one of the largest legislative packages adopted in the EU. It spans several sectors in the climate, energy and transport areas. Each country is given targets to reach and must contribute to reducing emissions. The EU is taking on the mantle of global leader in the climate issue,” continues the KD leader.

Ebba Busch sees electrification as the key to climate change.

“Nuclear power will be counted as a sustainable energy source. It reduces dependence on Russian energy. When European industry gets the conditions to be at the forefront of green solutions, European competitiveness is strengthened,” she writes.
