Henrik Lundqvist is one of Swedish hockey’s true greats.
Now he shows his most emotional side and spreads love throughout the hockey world.

Hundreds were on hand to show their support for Henrik Lundqvist during the most emotional moment. At the OKX Theater in Tribeca, New York, there was a big premiere for “King Henrik’s” very own documentary film “Open Heart”.
Lundqvist’s words
The documentary reflects Lundqvist’s path from celebrated goalie hero in the classic NHL team New York Rangers to life today as a retired hockey player. Where the greatest focus is directed towards the life-changing heart operation that forced the Swede to put the picking glove on the famous shelf.

It has been three years since “Henke” guarded the Rangers box for the last time in his career and it became extremely emotional during the cinema screening last night.
– I remember, there were a few times when we filmed, and you are taken back to those moments and it gets emotional, but you know…, says Lundqvist in a speech on stage according to SportExpressen.

“Never forget”
The Swedish NHL legend was widely praised by the audience on site and he had difficulty maintaining his voice when he had to speak to everyone.
– I can talk about the experience all the time and it feels good, but sometimes you get certain questions and you come back… I know that all the doctors are here somewhere, he says and was moved to tears according to the evening newspaper.

In the documentary, you can hear when Henrik Lundqvist and his wife Therese talk to Dr. Roselli about the serious heart defect that was discovered. And that it could lead to death in the worst case if he continues to play in the NHL every week.
– I get questions about that conversation and it is something I will never forget. It was a lot to handle. But it’s been cool working on this and dealing with all the emotions. I feel so happy and grateful and just so excited for what comes next, says Henke in his speech on stage.

The salon could hold 900 spectators and the queue was long to see the documentary film about and with Lundqvist. One of the guests on site was the former teammate Carl Hagelinhe is also in the film “Open Heart”.
