What at first glance looked like a generic John Wick knockoff turned out to be one of Netflix’s biggest surprises: Tyler Rake: Extraction became one of 2020’s most successful films in the history of the streaming service. Even three years later, it’s still in the top 10 most-watched originals.
Now the (super) mercenary embodied by Chris Hemsworth returns, although he was fatally injured at the end of the first part. One blurred silhouette however, hinted before the credits rolled that we haven’t seen the final chapter of the Tyler Rake saga yet. Now the story continues.
Streaming on Netflix tomorrow, Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in Extraction 2
tomorrow, am June 16, 2023, Tyler Rake: Extraction 2 launches on Netflix. The highly-anticipated action sequel is directed by stunt expert Sam Hargrave, who directed the previous series and has previously demonstrated his skills as a stunt coordinator on numerous Marvel blockbusters.

In Extraction 2, Tyler Rake gets a new mission. This time he is supposed to be the family of a Georgian gangster free from an icy prison. He gets support from an old acquaintance: Golshifteh Farahani returns in her role as Nik Kahn. The film also features two prominent newcomers: Olga Kurylenko and Idris Elba are part of the sequel’s cast.
Tyler Rake: Extraction 2 is fast becoming one of the biggest action blockbusters of the year. With a 21 minute action sequence, which was shot in one take – i.e. without a cut – Hargrave wants to compete with films like John Wick: Chapter 4 and Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One. We’re curious to see if he can keep up with the action greats of the cinema year.
After Extraction 2, will Extraction 3 come to Netflix?
A third part of the Tyler Rake series has not yet been officially announced. Hargrave has hinted that already first story ideas exist for another sequel. Hemsworth also signaled his interest in returning. Whether Extraction 3 comes or not, however, depends on the success of the second part.
