Heat wave on the way – over 30 degrees this week

There are really high temperatures in some parts of Sweden right now – and it will get hotter. This week, the temperature is expected to exceed 30 degrees.
– We will beat the annual high, if not tomorrow, then on Wednesday. Then we will probably pass 30 degrees for the first time this year, says TV4’s meteorologist Peter Kondrup.

The heat is finally here, and it will be warmer. According to Peter Kondrup, it can be up to 29 degrees in the western or northern parts of Götaland and in western Svealand – and then it is not impossible that we pass the 30 mark.

– But now the temperature is also starting to rise in northern Sweden. If not on Wednesday, then on Thursday, we pass 30 degrees and then maybe in several places in northern Götaland, Svealand and south-eastern Norrland. We have upwards of 29-30 degrees in Hälsingland and Medelpad, he says.

Extreme forest fire risk

Due to the warm temperatures and the dry lands, there is also a risk of forest fires, especially in the southern parts of the country but also in many other places.

– There is a very high risk of forest fires in the northern half of the country, and an extremely high risk in the southern half – and it will continue as long as there is no rain, says Peter Kondrup.

“We need rain”

On Thursday, however, a thunderstorm and rainstorm moves in over Poland – weather which has a tendency to move north and which Peter Kondrup hopes will reach Sweden.

– It could happen that we get some much-needed rain, but then in the form of showers in the southern parts of the country. However, it takes very unevenly, there can be huge amounts in one place and nothing in another. When the ground is as dry as it is, it might not have time to swallow it either, he says.

– We need rain, but it would rather be daily rain perhaps for a week straight. Not that it helps the groundwater, but it would help against the worst of the drought in the short term.
