In Marvel and DC films, the multiverse is currently a constantly used means to unite characters from different comic universes. This also makes it possible that alternate versions of long-dead characters can return.
That includes Man of Steel villain General Zod, who reprises his role in the upcoming DC movie The Flash, 10 years after the Zack Snyder blockbuster. In an interview, Zod actor Michael Shannon now spoke about the fact that he is not convinced of the multiverse concept.
DC Star compares multiverse to action figure game
In a recent Collider interview, Shannon talks about the multiverse as unsatisfactory acting experience:
I won’t lie, it wasn’t entirely satisfying for me as an actor. These multiverse movies are like someone playing with action figures. It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here is that person. And they fight!’ It’s not quite the in-depth character study situation I honestly felt with Man of Steel.
The DC star says The Flash is also a character study, but from Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen. His character is only there to present a challenge for the superhero.
Shannon originally didn’t want to return as his Man of Steel villain. He cited Warner Bros.’s handling of Zack Snyder’s DC vision as the reason.
When is The Flash in cinemas?
Before signing for The Flash, Shannon first got Snyder’s blessing. The DC blockbuster with General Zod’s return and many other surprising cameos is on from June 15, 2023 in German cinemas.
