Starfield Sees Rush for €300 Collector’s Edition – People desperately want a watch

Pre-orders for Starfield, Bethesda’s new SF role-playing game, started yesterday. As a special treat, there is a Collector’s Edition for €300 with a special watch and a matching case. The collectors seem to go for it. The edition was sold out within hours. At reddit they curse the damn scalpers and their greed for profit.

What’s in the Starfield Collector’s Edition?

  • Starfield’s “premium version” includes all digital products and costs around €100. There’s the game, the first expansion, access to the soundtrack and art book, plus some in-game skins.
  • The Collector’s Edition also comes with a special watch, the “Chronomark Watch”, and a matching steel case for an additional charge of around €200. This clock was already discovered in January 2022 (via gamepro), but now it is confirmed.
  • In addition, there is a patch and a credit stick with an engraved game code in the Collector’s Edition.

    What is so special about the watch? The Bethesda watch was highlighted in the presentation. The “real” watch reflects the watch that you are given at Starfield.

    Game Director Todd Howard enthuses:

    We made a clock for this game. It’s the Constellation Explorer’s Watch. This is the watch you actually get in-game, and it gives you access to part of your user interface: the compass and environmental information. It connects to your phone to send you notifications and other information.

    In addition to the watch, an elaborate case was also created, which is based on the boxes that real astronauts used in the Apollo age to transport moon rocks to earth.

    An effort has been made to make the case authentic enough to look like something that could actually exist in Starfield.

    Reddit is already cursing “scalpers” who bought the Collector’s Edition with the intention of later selling it for a profit. Even with the rare PlayStation 5, the scalpers were the bane of every honest gamer.

    Apparently, the first Collector’s Edition sold out within minutes, and stocks from retailers like GameStop were also rapidly declining.
