Here are the topics in TV4’s party leader debate

On Tuesday 13 June 20.00, TV4’s party leader debate gets under way – where the party leaders meet to discuss some of our most pressing social issues.
It’s about the school, crime, the housing shortage and the climate, say Ann Tiberg and Jenny Strömstedt, who lead the debate.

Almost a year of new political rule has passed and now the Tidöparties are pitted against the opposition in TV4’s party leader debate. Ann Tiberg and Jenny Strömstedt say that the discussion will start with the point of departure at school.

For the Swedish school faces a series of major challenges. It is partly about the issue of resources and the school’s finances and partly about the primary school having difficulty fulfilling its compensatory mission – at the same time that the gap between the students’ conditions is growing. What can be done about the growing gaps – and how can schools be good for all children?

The crime

Young criminals will be the next topic to debate. Because organized crime is a major social problem and serious violent crimes are creeping further and further down the ages. How do the government and the opposition think that new recruitment to the gangs should be stopped and work done preventively so that young people do not end up in crime?

– What do the politicians want to do about this? There are quite clear dividing lines there – or at least there were, before the election. Are they still around today? What does the discussion look like between the parties in terms of what they want to do about this – which feels more and more urgent, says Ann Tiberg.

The housing shortage

The third topic to be discussed is the housing shortage, which is not least acute in the big cities. And the trend is negative because according to statistics from Statistics Sweden, half as many residential apartments were built in the first quarter of this year compared to last year.

– If you are 29 years old and live in Stockholm, Uppsala or Lund, you cannot afford to buy a 29 square meter apartment with an average income today. Where should young people live, and how do you increase mobility in the housing market? Says Jenny Strömstedt.

The climate

Finally, the climate is discussed as the last issue of the debate. What role should Sweden have in the climate work and how do we reach the climate goals when the expertise says that we will not succeed with the current policy?
