Two weeks ago, the first episode of UR’s new teaching program “The Land of the Eight Seasons” was broadcast. Based on Sápmi’s eight seasons, literally everything between heaven and earth is explored during six episodes filled with facts about northern Sweden’s animals and nature.
Wanted for a long time
It was Peter Rosén, the photographer who contributed the series’ images, who first came up with the idea. This was picked up by UR, where they saw a chance to use that idea to meet a need they already knew existed in the schools.
– We have had a dialogue with both the Swedish and Sami schools regarding their needs for several years. There, a request for a program like this has been raised many times, that it would be very rewarding when teaching these subjects. So it felt very nice to be able to do it, says Lisa Wiman, who is responsible project manager.
The program, which is made in both Swedish and Northern Sami alternately, can be seen on Sunday evenings on TV2, where the third episode will be shown tonight.
Hear Lisa Wiman tell more about the idea behind the program in the video above.
