Ukrainian authorities say the water is gradually receding in the flooded areas after the dam collapse early Tuesday.
– 35 villages are still flooded on the right bank (west of the Dnieper River), 3,763 houses are under water, but the water is gradually decreasing, said Kherson military chief Oleksandr Prokudin, according to the AFP news agency.
The flooding, triggered by damage to the Kakhovka dam, has forced thousands to flee, disrupted water supplies and raised fears of an environmental and humanitarian catastrophe.
