Agneta Marell plans to remain as principal until a new successor is in place, which could take up to a year. She took up her post in October 2017 and her current appointment runs until October 2026.
– My current family situation means that I need to be on site in Umeå much more than I have the opportunity to today, says Agneta Marell in a press release.
Turbulence in the past year
Jönköpings-Posten and Jnytt reported last year on Marell’s air commuting, which led to criticism from the students. In addition, the transparency at the university was questioned. But that is not the reason why she is now terminating her employment prematurely. The board states in the press release that they were satisfied with Marell’s time as principal:
– The board is very satisfied with the work she has done for JU, but considering her family situation, we fully understand her making this decision, says Anders Danielsson, chairman of JU.
