Uppsala ungdomsjour point guards the young people’s celebration of the end of school

When the students in Uppsala have finished for the spring term, the older young people usually gather and celebrate together. But during the evening there is both alcohol and drugs, something that Uppsala youth center tries to curb.

– Most people we meet are happy and take care of themselves, but we also come across people who may have been exposed to things or have drunk too much, says Per Wahl, social worker.

Storvad is one of the places that young people go to if the weather permits, according to Ida Pennlöv, coordinator at the Uppsala youth centre.

– Swimming areas and outdoor areas are common, she says.

More drunks at Valborg

Alcohol consumption among young people has been decreasing for a long time, something that the youth service has noticed. However, they felt that there were more young people than in a long time who were drunk during the Walpurgis weekend.

– We’ll see if there are more people than usual who drink during the end of school too, says Ida Pennlöv.

What can a parent think about?

– To keep in touch, preferably through video calls so that you as a parent can see where the young people are.
