It was obvious that Ukrainian soldiers would be trained in Sweden, according to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).

Whether that increased the risk of Sweden being pulled in and becoming a target for Russia is difficult to say, he believes.

– It is clear that Russia is against us giving weapons to Ukraine, says the Prime Minister in connection with a press meeting.

Kristersson notes at the same time that Russia is currently very busy with its war in Ukraine and has large parts of its army locked up there.

– But that does not mean that Russia lacks other resources. There is nothing to indicate right now that Sweden would now be in an acutely vulnerable situation, he says.

Kristersson believes that Sweden is safer now than before the NATO application and emphasizes that several countries have given security assurances.

When the decision to donate 90 combat vehicles was made, it was also obvious that Ukrainian soldiers would be trained on the vehicles, according to Kristersson.

– When we say that Ukraine is not only fighting for themselves but also for us, it is our duty to help. But we should have no illusions about what Russia thinks about it.
