FUEL SUBSCRIPTION IN NIGERIA

Although Nigeria is Africa’s second largest oil producer, it imports almost all of its fuel oil due to the lack of refineries.

In October 2000, the government introduced the fuel subsidy by providing direct financial support to oil companies.

Tinubu stated that the subsidy in question only favors the rich, not the poor, and that the cost is increasing, and announced that he will remove the subsidy. (AA)
