It is dry in forests and land around the country, and now farmers are worried about the ongoing drought.

The heat looks set to last for the coming week, nice for those who want to avoid rainy days. But the drought is something that worries Sweden’s farmers.

Sweden’s Radio Ekot has spoken to farmer Vanja Wallenmyr in Falköping, in Västergötland, who worries about the lack of rain.

– I feel a great deal of concern, it will soon start to sprout and needs water quite immediately. In a week it will be serious, very serious, says Vanja Wallenmyr to the radio.

The temperature will continue to rise in the coming days, and the worst of the drought looks to be in southern Sweden.

– We will have warmer weather that will put a damper on this. It will be far from the harvest we got last year, but it will be more at the level of summer 2018, says Lars Johansson, plant advisor at the Swedish Agency for Agriculture, to Sweden’s Radio Ekot.

The National Federation of Farmers (LRF) also notices a concern among its members, writes the newspaper Bohusläningen.

– What we are seeing with the farmers right now is that it is starting to use up the grazing resources for the grazing animals, says Christer Jansson, expert at LRF Väst to the newspaper.
