Diablo 4: “Cannot find a valid license”

Diablo 4 is finally out. The release went extraordinarily clean. Just one mistake causes trouble. Some players are struggling with an annoying bug. Luckily, the solution is very easy, albeit a bit strange.

What is this error? If you start Diablo 4 on , you will be greeted with the error: “No valid license found” and you are not allowed to log in. While there are no queues for release, this bug is locking a lot of fans out right now.

A restart should already help. However, that’s not always enough, especially on PS5 and Xbox.

However, some users on Reddit and in our comments on MeinMMO have figured out how to work around the problem. It quickly came out: buying platinum helps, i.e. the premium currency for real money.

At first this caused resentment. Because some users accuse Blizzard here of calculation. The expensive prices in the shop have already caused outrage before. The fault lies with Sony itself, because you don’t have to pay any real money.

That is the solution: As of now, there are several solutions that work for people. Try several of them if one doesn’t work or restart your console in between:

  • “buy” a free game from the PS Store
  • download any game, e.g. from PS Plus or a smaller game – free games also work
  • download a DLC for any game
  • restore your license via Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Restore License
  • buy platinum for Diablo 4

    • Note: The bug seems to be affecting some users on Xbox as well. You can also try the appropriate steps for your platform.

    This is how we solved the problem: Our author Christos Tsogos couldn’t gamble that night either and was left with license issues. Things he had tried were:
    – Restart console
    – Switch off the console completely and wait
    – Restore licenses
    – Account logged out and logged in again
    All of a sudden he was able to log in after waiting 20 minutes. So patience is required.

    Blizzard has been working on an official solution since the release at 1:57 a.m. (via Twitter). But it’s still open.

    As soon as you enter the game, you should immediately activate 2 options:

    “The cleanest launch ever for Blizzard on PC”

    Apart from the license error, there are almost no complaints about the launch. Some users even hailed the release as the cleanest in Blizzard history, at least on PC. No errors, no login queues, no overloaded servers. MeinMMO reader Higi praises: “No queues, great, smooth start! So, must searched.”

    There is only criticism of Diablo 4’s online compulsion, because some users associate the error on PS5 with it. Most players should already be romping around in Sanctuary and chasing Lilith.
