The incident occurred on 12 January in Ordu’s Fatsa district, Dolunay Mahallesi, Erguvan Anatolia Site. Erkan Emiroğlu went to his house to talk to Elvan Sözkesen, the mother of his 2 children, whom he divorced last year after 10 years of marriage. Emiroğlu, who went up to the 7th floor, waited for Sözkesen when the door did not open. Elvan Sözkesen, who took the supplies brought by her ex-father-in-law from downstairs and returned to her home, met Emiroğlu in front of the apartment. In the discussion between the parties, Erkan Emiroğlu poured the flammable gel on Elvan and set it on fire.
Elvan Sözkesen, who was engulfed in flames, helped her neighbors who heard her screams. The neighbors who extinguished the flames informed the 112 Emergency Service. Elvan Sözkesen, who was taken to Fatsa State Hospital by ambulance and had second-degree burns on her body, was transferred to Samsun Training and Research Hospital after the intervention there. Emiroğlu, who fled after the incident, was caught by the police and arrested by the court he was brought to. The moments when Emiroğlu and Sözkesen entered and left the building were captured on the security camera.
CLAIM IS PREPARED
An indictment was filed against Erkan Emiroğlu for ‘attempting to kill by design with a monstrous feeling or torment’, and for his father Tahsin Emiroğlu, who allegedly helped his son, for ‘aiding the crime of attempted murder’. The indictment was accepted by the Fatsa High Criminal Court.
‘I tried to run away because I was scared’
Elvan Sözkesen, in her statement in the indictment, said that she was disturbed by her ex-wife and when she met her she tried to escape because she was afraid. Stating that he did not extinguish the flames on his ex-wife but watched him burn, Sözkesen said, “My ex-father-in-law called in the morning on the day of the incident. He told me that he had come to the site and brought me supplies and told me to go downstairs. I went down with the elevator. I saw my father-in-law at the exit of the site. We went to him and talked for 2-3 minutes. I took the groceries. I took the elevator to my apartment on the 7th floor. As I was about to get off the elevator, I saw my ex-wife come down the stairs to the top floor. She was constantly irritating me. I was worried that she might do something to me because she had threatened me before, so I didn’t go to my own residence and headed downstairs. I tried to escape.
”WATCHED MY BURN”
As I descended with my back turned, I felt a wetness. All of a sudden, before I knew what was happening, I was on fire. Thinking I’m going to die, I shouted ‘mom’. Upon my shouting, my downstairs neighbor opened the door. He led me to the bathroom. With the help of my neighbors, the flames were put out. Then we went to the hospital by ambulance. Erkan did not have a cigarette in his hand. He didn’t try to put out the flames on me. He watched me burn,” he said.
‘THREEEN DEATH’
Sözkesen said, “Before the incident, my ex-wife had been threatening me with death for 15 days. She was telling me, ‘I am young, I risked 35 years, I will not let you live.’ I think he carried out this action by designing it,” he said.
”I burned your BRIDE, GO INTERESTED”
Erkan Emiroğlu, on the other hand, in his statement in the indictment, stated that the plastic bottle was by the window and he angrily picked it up and threw it, “I parked the car behind the house. Because I was too lazy to use the front door, I jumped over the wall, entered the apartment. I went up to the floor where the house is located. I met my ex-wife on the floor of the house. I wanted to talk. I wanted to talk. I didn’t say what I wanted to talk about. My ex-wife refused this request by saying, “There is nothing to talk about right now.” Then she started going down the stairs. So I angrily grabbed the plastic bottle with a slightly whitish liquid on it, which was on the side of the window in the stairwell, and threw it angrily. I was holding a cigarette. This liquid caught fire at once. Then I heard Elvan’s screams. She was going down the stairs rapidly. After the incident, I called my father on the phone and said, ‘I made an incident, I burned your bride, go take care of it now’.
‘I WANT TO TAKE THE MOST HIGH PENALTY’
Elvan Sözkesen, whose treatment continues, told about the fearful moments she experienced in her hospital bed. Sözkesen, who wanted her ex-wife to receive the heaviest punishment, said, “If my neighbor who heard my screams had not opened the door, I would have been a victim of femicide too. Thank God, I was saved thanks to my neighbor who opened the door. I want such murderous, psychopathic people to receive the heaviest punishment. I want it to be ended. I don’t want any more little babies to be left without a mother. I don’t want people to walk among us, such as murderous, monstrous, vile, unscrupulous, merciless, psychopathic people to burn a person alive. Everyone is afraid now. I don’t want anyone to trust anyone anymore. That’s why families send their children to psychopathic villains. “Let him not get married. No one should cause his child either. No more deaths. He put me in this state when I had no health problems. I want him to receive the heaviest punishment,” he said.
