Today, the search for missing Madeleine McCann ended at a pond in southern Portugal.
Now the police announce that new findings have been made, write Sky News.
“A specific area along the dam was thoroughly searched,” said German prosecutors.
Last week, the Arade water reservoir, five miles from the Algarve coast, was singled out as a point of interest in the Madeleine McCann investigation.
Now German and British police can reveal that new findings have been made in connection with the dam.
“A number of items were seized as part of the operation. These will be investigated in the coming days and weeks,” state German prosecutors.
Would have turned 20 years old
Whether the items have any connection to Madeleine McCann, who would have turned 20 this May, is still too early to say.
This is the second time the pond has been searched, the last time being in 2008 – a year after her disappearance.
The then three-year-old Madeleine McCann disappeared from a family holiday in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz on the Algarve coast. Despite extensive searches over the years, she has not yet been found.
There is a prime suspect
The man who has since last year been formally suspected of murdering Madeleine McCann is a convicted sex offender, who is currently serving a prison sentence after raping a 72-year-old woman in the same area where the girl disappeared.
However, he has not been charged with any crime related to the disappearance. He also denies involvement in the case.
However, it has been claimed that the man visited the reservoir in question, reports Sky News.
