A passenger plane was forced to turn back to Arlanda Airport after colliding with a bird.
Shortly after, a warning plan came from a Jasplan in Uppsala. It too had collided with one or more birds.
The alarm from the Boeing 767 passenger plane came at 10.35. In order to be able to land again at Arlanda, it was decided that fuel would be dumped over the Baltic Sea, in order to reduce the plane’s weight.
169 passengers were on board, according to Swedavia. The plane was on its way from Stockholm to New York.
– During the trip, a warning alarm was indicated. For safety reasons, the decision was therefore made to return to Arlanda, says Peter Wärring, press officer at Swedavia.
Alarm about Jasplan
At about the same time, a warning alert came from a Jasplan F-16 in Uppsala, which had also collided with one or more birds.
– I was a little surprised that these two events happened at the same time, says Lars Nilsson, air rescue leader at the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre.
The pilot managed to land without problems at Ärna air base.
Many patrols
Police and emergency services were also alerted to Arlanda Airport to assist the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre. At 11.24 the plane was able to land.
– Everything went well, it was quite undramatic as I understood it, says Peter Wärring at Swedavia.
The plane will now be examined.
– You can examine the plane and see what is wrong and what has happened.
