Hundreds of ethnic Serbs have gathered outside the town hall in Zvecan in northern Kosovo. KFOR soldiers have formed a ring around the building and secured it with a metal fence, according to AFP’s reporter on the scene.

Tensions in the country remain high after 30 soldiers from the NATO-led international peacekeeping force Kfor were injured in clashes with ethnic Serbs who tried to enter an office belonging to a newly elected mayor. The mayors were elected in April in elections that the Kosovo Serbs boycotted and only 3.4 percent of the population cast their votes.
