Index movements were small on the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday, as Wall Street reopened after the Memorial Day long weekend. Over the weekend came the long-awaited announcement that President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy reached an agreement on the US debt ceiling.

But before the House of Representatives votes on the deal, uncertainty remains, and trading was tentative on Tuesday.

The broad S&P 500 index closed unchanged, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2 percent and the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.3 percent.
