Following the success of Tyler Rake: Extraction, the sequel starring Chris Hemsworth is coming to Netflix in mid-June. In Part 2, the Marvel star once again plays the badass mercenary, this time tasked with rescuing a family from the clutches of a ruthless gangster.
The first part particularly impressed with a 12-minute sequence that breathless action with no visible cuts unleashed. Tyler Rake: Extraction 2 aims to surpass this inferno with a passage almost twice as long! Hemsworth has now revealed new details.
The action in Tyler Rake: Extraction 2 was the hardest shoot of Chris Hemsworth’s life
As Slash Film reports, the actor spoke in the Total Film interview about the exhausting shooting of the 21-minute sequence, which was again filmed without any visible cuts as a series of long action choreographies. The scene is about a prison fight that even ends up setting fire to Hemsworth’s fists:
I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can make it to the end of this round.’ […] It’s like a boxing match: ‘When does the bell ring? When do they call “cut”?’
Since the scene had to appear as if it were made of one piece, the star couldn’t fall back on a stunt double. That’s why Hemsworth got a physiotherapist on set to shoot the action of the Netflix sequel:
He saw me just sitting there and leaning in a different way. He grabbed me and pulled me to the side and quickly dug his hands into my back and shoulder or whatever and sent me out again. At home we went straight to the ice bath, straight to the sauna and to physiotherapy. A few anti-inflammatory pills. And then back out there.
In the Total Film interview, director Sam Hargrave also spoke about his idea behind the upcoming action scene. He was inspired by a nature documentary about a lion being attacked by a pack of hyenas. It took a lot of planning, preparation and, most importantly, physical stamina from Hemsworth to accurately capture and portray the specific movements.
We see the result from June 16, 2023. Then Tyler Rake: Extraction 2 will be released on Netflix subscription to stream.
