It seems as if time has stopped

Luton has last played in England’s highest league level in the 1991–92 season. Luton’s stadium, Kenilworth Road, has remained largely unchanged since the Second World War.

The English Premier League will feature an interesting team and an interesting stadium next season. Luton Town were promoted to the Premier League after beating Coventry on penalties in the qualifying final at the weekend

Burnley and Sheffield United had already secured promotion. Leicester, Leeds and Southampton were relegated from the Premier League.

Luton last played in the English Premier League in the 1991-92 season, just before the start of the Premier League era. Since then, it has even been out of the league at the fifth league level, where it was still in 2014.

Luton’s stadium, Kenilworth Road, has become a topic of conversation in particular. The stadium is quite a contrast to the modern giant stadiums of, for example, Manchester City and Arsenal. The stadium has been Luton’s Home Ground since 1905 and has remained largely the same since the Second World War.

– It seems as if time had stopped when we were there, the Norwegian TV narrator legend Arne Scheie said In the story of NRK referring to the 1970s.

The capacity of the stadium is 10,356. It is the smallest in the history of the Premier League. Especially the area around the stadium has come to the fore, when visitors come to the stands by stairs from the middle of the residential buildings.

The Premier League’s biggest stars will also be able to play in that environment next season. However, some reforms must be made to the stadium in order for it to meet the requirements of the Premier League. A new stadium is being planned, but it will probably not be ready until 2026.

CEO of Luton Gary Sweet lit up the stadium at The Athletic.

– This is real football. This is history and tradition. This is not a sterile stadium, this is full of life and emotion, tears and joy. “If you don’t understand that, you don’t love football,” Sweet said.

– People can make fun of the stadium, but we don’t care.

The next challenge for Luton is to keep a league place after next season. It’s not easy for a serial riser.
