The bronze match of the World Cup turned into a wildly exciting drama.
Latvia is celebrating the bronze medal in the hockey World Cup. The first ice hockey World Cup medal in the country’s history was secured on Sunday, when the team defeated the United States in overtime with 4–3 goals.

Thousands of Latvians burst into screams for the first time already in the opening set, when Richards Buckarts raised the goal from a corner to give Latvia the lead.
However, in the fast-paced opening set, Latvia could not bask in the lead for long. USA star player Brocco Grimaldi tied the game two minutes after Bukarts’ goal.
He also hit a second late in the inning. Janis Jaks had given Latvia a 2–1 lead three minutes earlier.
Grimaldi leads the points market of the games with 7+7=14 before the evening’s final match.
The second set was more serene, and neither could celebrate with goals. The atmosphere in the arena was lifted by the engagement of a Latvian couple, which made part of the audience give a standing ovation.
In the third period, Latvia had a chance to take a sensational lead, but Oskars Batna failed to finish at the end of a direct attack.
Instead, the United States took the lead in 46:19, when Matt Coronato shot the loose puck into the net by the Latvian keeper by Arturs Silovs.
Latvia had to go on the defensive in the set, but it got an extra boost from the Latvians who were still singing loudly.
Perseverance received the award a good five minutes before the buzzer, when Kristians Rubins the line drive went into the net, and the arena was full of elves.
The arriving Latvians finally got the ending they wanted when Rubins scored the second goal in overtime.
