Manuel Lindberg resigns as CEO of AIK football

Manuel Lindberg is resigning as CEO of AIK football, the club says in a statement press release.
– I take my responsibility as part of the situation and have therefore chosen to step aside. Keeping me as CEO/club director does not benefit the club right now, says Manuel Lindberg.

On Sunday, scandalous scenes unfolded in the derby between AIK and Djurgården IF at Tele2 Arena. Flares and shots were thrown onto the pitch, followed by a clash between police and AIK supporters. The match had to be temporarily suspended.

Now the club’s CEO Manuel Lindberg announces that he is resigning as CEO.

– With his drive and commitment, Manuel has shown a great desire to create better conditions for AIK Football. Today the club is in a very precarious situation and I have great respect for Manuel’s decision to end his employment with us. I wish him the best of luck with his future assignments, says AIK Fotboll AB’s board chairman Robert Falck in the press release.

For the time being, Fredrik Söderberg will take over as acting CEO.

Lindberg: “It’s going badly”

AIK is currently in the relegation zone in the Allsvenskan with their six points from ten games. And the supporters have not been shy with their criticism of the club’s managers.

At the end of yesterday’s losing match against Djurgården (1-0), two banners were held up in connection with the hooligan phalanx Firman Boys. The banners read: “Resign Brännström” and “Resign Manuel”. Message directed at coach Andreas Brännström and CEO/club director Manuel Lindberg.

– It’s going badly. Then there is nothing strange. There is a lot of frustration and it is clear that I have a responsibility. It’s completely natural in this industry. It is unforgiving. So it is, Lindberg said of the banner The soccer channel yesterday.

Manuel Lindberg has been criticized recently, for example because he stepped in as acting sports director after Henrik Jurelius was fired last autumn.
