The accident commission sees flaws in the rails after the derailment

Two people were injured when an Arlanda express train derailed north of Stockholm.
The stretch will be closed for up to a week – and the bill is expected to be hundreds of millions of kroner.
Now the state accident commission states that there are signs of defects on the rails.

During Saturday morning, an Arlanda express train derailed in Märsta north of Stockholm. About 70 passengers had to be evacuated and two passengers were slightly injured in the accident, which occurred when three of the train’s four carriages left the track.

Arlanda express CEO Magnus Zetterström tells TV4 Nyheterna that the repair will take up to seven days. About a kilometer of rails, four gears and the train will need to be repaired after the accident.

He tells Expressen that the bill for the derailment is expected to be hundreds of millions of kroner.

Now the state accident commission states that it has seen signs that there is a lack of rails, something that may have affected the derailment. This is stated by Mikael Hillbo, rail traffic investigator at the accident commission.

The accident commission is at the scene of the accident to investigate what is behind the incident. Much suggests that a formal decision on an accident investigation will come later this week.
