Max Verstappen gassed up for the first time in his career on the pole position at the classic track in Monaco. Sergio Perez, great on street tracks, crashed in the opening section.
Red Bull Max Verstappen has managed to achieve anything during his young career. Now the Dutch driver reached pole position for the first time in his career on Monaco’s legendary street circuit.
However, the first place in tomorrow’s race came at the end of a hard fight.
In the final section, the fastest driver changed from this to this. Sometimes it was Alpine Esteban Ocon. Sometimes a Ferrari Charles Leclerc.
At the end, a 41-year-old veteran driver Fernando Alonso took his Aston Martin to the top. Alonso was firmly on pole position until Verstappen pulled past the Spaniard with his last move.
The pole position would have been the first in 11 years for Alonso, who has won two world championships. During his career, he has driven to square one 22 times.
Alonso’s early season has been wild. He has driven his green Aston Martin to the podium several times and is third in the World Championship points.
Leclerc was third in qualifying.
Perez nodded
Red Bull by Sergio Perez the early season has been fantastic. The experienced Mexican striker has won two of the five races this season and is only 14 points away from his teammate Max Verstappen, who leads the World Series.
Perez went into the Formula One Monaco GP weekend as the defending race winner. The Red Bull driver is also known as the best street driver in the series. Five of his six wins have come on street tracks.
However, Perez’s weekend was significantly hampered on Saturday when he crashed his car into the wall in the first half of qualifying. The car broke down badly and the race was stopped for a while.
On a track like the Monaco GP, it is almost impossible to overtake, so Perez, who will start from the back of the crowd on Sunday, has lost his dreams of success in the race.
Many drivers hit the track wall during qualifying. One of these was driven in McLaren’s festive livery Lando Norriswho slightly damaged his car in the second section.
Alfa Romeo Valtteri Bottas was 15th and beat his teammate like in the previous GP Zhou Guanyun.
Red Bull has been superior since the beginning of the season, especially thanks to its fast straight line speed. On Monaco’s really narrow track, the other teams may even have the best seam of the season to beat both Red Bull cars.
