Michael J. Fox became a cult actor with his role as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future series. Due to his Parkinson’s disease, the star largely withdrew from the business from 2000 onwards. The new Apple TV+ documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie has seen some public appearances from Fox again. As a guest on a talk show, he now revealed which rejected role he regrets to this day.
Michael J. Fox Angers After Turning Down Ghost Star
According to Deadline, Fox guest-starred on ABC’s The View alongside Whoopi Goldberg. Here he told the actress directly that turning down the lead in Ghost: Messages from Sam still haunts him to this day:
There was a chance to work with you that I missed. You spoke to me about Ghost early on. I said, ‘This will never work.’ I said, ‘Whoopi is great, but it’s never going to work.’ And then it was great and huge and I’m a fucking idiot.
Patrick Swayze took over the lead role in Ghost, opposite Fox, alongside Demi Moore. The story about the murdered banker, who wants to protect his great love as a spirit from the afterlife from his murderer, became a box office sensation. With a budget of around $22 million, Ghost grossed over $500 million worldwide.

On the talk show, Goldberg offered at least some comfort to Fox. She told him that there was still time and they would find something in common to work together.
