And can’t Soest just leave the shopping hours to the entrepreneurs themselves? “No, the 24-hour economy is more something for the big city, that is not in line with society in Soest,” says Van Aalst. “We limit it during the week, so also on Sundays and public holidays. But the need for a wider opening is felt by large groups of residents who would otherwise go to surrounding municipalities such as Amersfoort and Baarn. So we want to respond to that.”
