It was at the end of last August that a unit manager within the municipality of Ulricehamn informed an employee at a business within the municipality about an upcoming delivery of 20 kilos of sirloin steak, according to Gothenburg Post.
The invoice for the delivery was SEK 8,808.
According to the employee, the manager then came and picked up the meat, then took it home.
A month later, another operations manager noticed that the employee was depressed. They started talking about the strained finances of the business and the employee worried about whether the expensive meat would put a strain on the finances.
When the municipality of Ulricehamn reviewed the incident, they noticed that the order had not been placed through their normal system. The invoice had also been split and booked at two other businesses, reports the newspaper.
The manager’s defense: The meat was for a barbecue
According to the suspected manager, he had received a request to make the order for a municipal event with a barbecue in the forest. When he realized the grilling wasn’t done, he called the meat supplier and returned the meat.
But there is no information about any return being made and no one within the business knew anything about the alleged grilling event.
The manager had to resign in the autumn and would later be prosecuted for disloyalty to the principal. The manager has denied wrongdoing, GP writes.
Expensive cuts of meat
The district court does not consider that the manager’s explanations for the purchase affect the assessment. He is therefore sentenced to 40 daily fines of SEK 230, a total of SEK 9,200 for faithlessness towards the principal. The district court considers that he has abused his position as manager and that his actions have caused damage to the municipality of Ulricehamn.
He must also pay SEK 7,864 in damages to the municipality, which was the cost of the meat excluding VAT.
