During the night to Thursday, several alarms were received shortly after 02:00 about explosions in stairwells at two central addresses in Norrköping.
– The alarms about the explosions in each gate came in just a few minutes apart, says Magnus Holmström, commander on duty at Police Region East.
– Some kind of explosion has occurred, but we still don’t know why.
The gates are blown apart
No one should have been physically harmed. However, there is material damage in both stairwells.
– The gates are blown to pieces. One gate has slightly less damage than the other, says Magnus Holmström.
The police have cordoned off both locations and a forensic examination will be carried out in the morning. However, the bomb shelter has not been called in as the police judged that it was not needed.
Police patrols are on the scene and immediately began interviewing residents of the house and residents of surrounding houses for testimony.
– There are quite a few people living in the exposed houses and in the houses around, who have heard the explosions in the gate entrances. We have already started hearing from residents, says Magnus Holmström.
Confident about the reason
The police do not yet want to say what it is that detonated or why the detonations took place. Nor do the police want to draw any conclusions yet whether the explosion has anything to do with organized crime.
– It is too early to say. The investigation will go through what underlying causes there may be, says Magnus Holmström.
