A loud bang was heard by several people at Näsby park in Täby, north of Stockholm on the night of Wednesday after something detonated in a garage at a single-family house.
– It is unclear what detonated, but it does not seem to have any natural explanation. We believe it is a crime, says Daniel Wikdahl, press spokesperson at the Stockholm Police.
– We do not know why the detonation took place, but we have secured some clues at the scene.
Three adults indoors
At the time of the detonation, three adults were in the residential building to which the garage is connected.
No one should have been physically harmed. However, material damage has occurred as a result of the detonation on the garage and facade damage on surrounding residential buildings.
– The garage has suffered quite a lot of damage. It is still standing, but things and large parts have come loose from the ceiling and walls, says Daniel Wikdahl.
– A few cars nearby have also been damaged, and glass panes in residential buildings opposite have been cracked.
Do you think that the detonation is connected to the acts of violence that have taken place in recent months?
– It is too early to say. But we go through everything of interest that can be connected to the event.
Hoping for testimonials
The police therefore suspect a crime and classify the incident as public destruction. Barricades are set up in several places in the area and door knocking began during the night in the hope of finding witnesses to the incident.
– We want to talk to witnesses who not only heard the bang, but who may have seen vehicles or people moving in the area, says Daniel Wikdahl.
Nothing else dangerous has been found in the area, the police say.
